Paym Payne’s security was pushed back when the detective asked for more evidence and an eyewitness account before going forward with the case.
The 31-year-old singer, who rose to fame in one direction, died in October 2024 after falling from a hotel balcony in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
During a brief hearing at Buckinghamshire Crown Court in Coronphamshire, Coroner Crispin Butler said there were still “continuing inquiries in Argentina into the circumstances of Liam’s death.”
He explained that full reports and witness statements were needed before a final investigation could take place.
A post-mortem report revealed that Stama died of multiple injuries and “internal and external bleeding” after falling from the third floor of the hotel.
However, the next review is set for May 7, 2026.
The court also heard that some documents, including the autopsy report and police findings from Argentina, had already been shared with UK authorities.
These documents will be translated before the coroner speaks to Liam’s family.
Officials in Argentina have dropped three of the five people being investigated in connection with the case.
Mr Butler said the final inquest would focus on the biggest questions and that was “who Liam was, how he died, and what exactly happened that night.”
For the untouchables, Liam, who grew up in Wolverhampton, started his solo career in 2016 which touched millions of fans around the world.
