Brandon Sklenar opens up about living in his car before fame

Brandon Sklenar talks candidly about the difficult time he faced before his development role.

The It’s Over With Us The star opened up about not having a stable place to live before hitting the series In 1923.

The 35-year-old revealed in an article he published Wall Street Journal on December 16, that he grew up in his grandparents’ house as his parents divorced when he was only six years old.

“In retrospect, the Turk seemed like a psycho,” he recalled.

Reflecting on how his parents’ divorce affected him, he noted, “Their conflict was shocking, and I couldn’t express myself. It was just a shocking response to indescribable emotions.”

Sklenar shared that his father and grandfather’s home on Lake Hopatcong was the “most permanent home” he grew up in.

He noted that the house “smelled like wood and had a strange, haunted feeling.”

Because of his bossy nature he loved movies, “I would go to school like a movie star and stay in accents for weeks. Everyone thought I was weird.”

And when he acted like someone else, his arrogance “disappeared,” but he said, “When I was myself, it returned.”

After college, Sklenar moved to the West Coast with his girlfriend with $2,500 in his pocket after selling his car. But due to poor planning and lack of network, soon after he was evicted from his apartment and his girlfriend broke up.

He then lived in his car “for a while.”

Later, he was discovered by a talent manager at the age of 20 and landed small roles until his “life-changing role” in Taylor Sheridan’s In 1923.
