Wiz Khalifa has been sentenced to nine months in prison in Romania after being found guilty of drug offenses related to his arrest last year.
The verdict was handed down on Thursday by the Court of Appeal in Constanța, more than a year after the singer was arrested during a concert in the country.
The 38-year-old artist, whose real name is Cameron Jibril Thomaz, headlined Beach, Please! At a party in Costinești in July 2024, when the authorities accused him of having more than 18 grams of cannabis and consuming part of the stage.
According to Associated PressThe court found Khalifa guilty of possessing “dangerous drugs, without the right, for personal use.”
The decision is final and follows a ruling in early April 2025 that fined 3,600 lei, roughly $830. Prosecutors appealed the harsh sentence, which the appeals court upheld.
In their written verdict, the judges said the sentence was a message, describing Khalifa’s actions as “visible” and harmful to society. They added that his behavior could encourage the use of illegal drugs, especially among young people.
After his arrest in 2024, Khalifa apologized to X for smoking marijuana on stage, saying he did not mean any disrespect to Romania.
As a nonresident American citizen, it is unclear whether Romanian authorities will pursue extradition.
