Novelist Sophie Kinsella dies at age 55

Best-selling British author Sophie Knsella died on Wednesday at the age of 55.

Her family announced her death on social media the same day, saying she died “this morning”.

She passed away peacefully in her final days filled with a rocking birthday: family and songs and warmth and Christmas cheer and joy,” read the family’s official statement, instead AP News.

The author, whose real name is Madeleine Sophie Wickham, was found in a form of mental warfare in 2022.

The family continued, “despite this disease, born with unimaginable courage, Sophie counts herself blessed – to have a wonderful family, and to have extraordinary success in her writing career.

“It took nothing away from her and she is forever grateful for the love she received. She will be greatly missed and our hearts are breaking.”

Kinsella has sold more than 50 million books in more than 60 countries. Her work has been translated into more than 40 languages.

Raised in London and educated at Oxford, she first worked as a financial journalist and published her first book, The Tennis Party, at 24 under her real name, Madeleneine Wickham.

She published a total of seven novels under her pen name before switching to the pseudonym Sophie Kinsella in 2000. She went on to publish 28 books as Sophie Kinsella, including The hidden secrets are meant forwhich led to a nine-book hit series in 2009, Confessions of servants.

Her books are sometimes called “chicken,” a description she completely disapproves of. “When I hear the word ‘fuel chicken’, I feel that pinpruck and not anger, but a little resignation,” she told Daily mail Year 2018. “‘Oh, this again…'”

A statement from Kinsella’s publisher said she has “defined and enhanced the romantic comedy of her stories with real-life issues that combine life, emotional depth and social understanding.”
