Bong Joonn Ho, the legendary director of the South Korean group Southfeere, opened up about the Netflix group Diga Bros.
The director, who is the president of the prosecutor of this year’s film festival in Marrakech, was asked about his thoughts on the Netflix-Warner Bros deal at the event.
An audience member asked, “What do you think about this purchase, and what do you think about screening movies on TV, even big TVs, and cinemas with audiences? How do you see the future of cinemas?”
Bong, who is famous for directing Oscar-winning films and ice skating, jokingly replied, “I don’t know what’s going on in LA.” However, he noted that he really enjoyed watching two films a day “in the big theater, with the big screen” for more than ten days at the Marrakech film festival.
Adding, “streaming is also a great way to watch and enjoy movies.”
“But I don’t think the cinema experience will be lost easily,” said Bong Joon hoon.
This comes after Netflix announced a plan to buy the Warner Bros. and HBO Max in an $82.7 billion deal on Friday. Many critics refer to the deal as “the death of cinema.”
