Sir Elton John is asking politicians around the world not to stop research to eradicate HIV/AIDS.
In a cover story for various genres, the pop star called out the lack of political support to fight the deadly epidemic, saying that politicians have the power to stop the disease in our lifetime.
John said: “I was angry.”
“It’s sad when you get your hands on the device to end it, and then you realize that countries in Africa, Russia, the Middle East and Eastern Europe are not going to help,” he added.
In the hearing that turned the United States, John praised the efforts of the current administration to end the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, calling it an issue that must end HIV and AIDS.
“There is another battle with people with HIV and AIDS who should have access to medicine but they can’t because governments won’t allow it. It’s humanitarian,” he said.
“So, the big beef at the moment is, yes, thank you, maybe the peace will be chosen, after many things are produced from millions of people who rob governments and hatred and hate,” he told the Intelligencer.
Elton John’s non-profit foundation Aids is now the fifth largest charity for the disease worldwide and so far the organization has helped raise $650 million (£494 million) for the cause.
